Rapid SLM calibration manuscript on arxiv

Standaard

Today we published our latest work on holographically generated spatial light potentials on arxiv:

Rapid stochastic spatial light modulator calibration and pixel crosstalk optimisation

https://arxiv.org/pdf/2408.07672

I am really excited about this work as it makes using these potentials not only better but also much easier, which ultimately will allow more people to use this technqiue in their experiments.

Promotion to Research Fellow

Standaard

The University of Strathclyde has made me a Research Fellow at the Physics department this spring. Naturally this is great news for me. It allows me more freedom to persue the research I find most interresting and promising and will allow me to build up my own team and ultimately my own experiment.

I will continue to work with our Quantum Gas Microscopes and use these to study fundamental physics question and further devellop related quantum technology applications.

Incommensurate Rb atoms in Nature Communications and more good news

Standaard

2024 started with some good news, our first paper from the new Rb quantum gas microscope was accepted for publication in Nature Communications.

You can read the full article here:

A second paper was submitted for review this month from Elmar Hallers experiment in which we studied periodic driving in titlked optical lattices. A technique that sounds complicated and exotic but which ahs shown in recent years to be key to many quantum simulation experiments in which rich badmstructures are created and studied!

Instabilities paper published at PRR

Standaard

I am happy to see that our latest paper was published this week in Physical Review Research. Because it combines new experimental results with theoretical simulations this is one of the longest papers I have worked on. We first show where a shaking with a lattice can lead to the growth of excitations in a condensate. Then we devellop the required theoretical description to show how this stabiliy diagram can be understood by considering modulational instabilities.

Arrived in Glasgow

Standaard

After an exciting month living effectively in three cities at the same time I arrived with my belongings in Glasgow. The city welcomed me with a sunny week full of cold atoms, badminton and some whisky!

New paper on Arxiv

Standaard

On May 1st of 2018 we submitted the technical nano-fabrication work of my PhD research for peer review. The article was simultaneously published on arXiv under:

https://arxiv.org/abs/1805.00376

The fruitful work of a new collaboration between material scientists from Leuven and technicians from the Kavli cleamnroom in Delft resulted in the fabrication of our sub-wavelength magnetic lattices with which we hope to trap atoms at teh University of Amsterdam. Feel free to have a look at the paper!
